 Air Apaches

'Air Apaches'

The B-25 initially designed as a medium high level bomber, later developed into a varient known as the "Strafer". This new model was ideally suited for the South Pacific campaign during World War II. Most targets were Japanese shipping and small airfields. With as many as fourteen forward firing guns combined with skip bombing attacks, the B-25 Strafer was a formidable aircraft.

This painting depicts two B-25 Strafers with the lead aircraft of the 498th Bomb Squadron "Falcons", piloted by 1st Lt. Edward J. Varvello and Navigator 1st Lt. Thomas C. Wills. The second aircraft, "Bats Otta Hell" with the 499th Bomb Squadron. Both belonged to the 345th Bomb Group, "Air Apaches" based at Ie Shima Island, Okinawa, 1945.

This painting has been SOLD as a 24"x 36" framed original oil on canvas
