 Ladies Of The Night

'Ladies of the Night'

The Northrup P-61 Black Widow was a "made to order" night fighter for the Army Air Force. With it's sophisticated radar, gloss black color and awesome firepower, it was ideally suited for night missions. The P-61 quickly gained a fearsome reputation with the Japanese in that most often aircraft would withdraw before engagement.

This painting depicts one of the most famous of all P-61 Black Widows, #239713 "Lady in the Dark", 548th Night Figher Squadron, based at Ie Shima, Okinawa, 1945. This aircraft is most famous for the last confirmed kill of the war while chasing an enemy aircraft until it crashed in the the Pacific...all without a shot being fired!

This painting has been SOLD as a 24"x 36" framed original oil on canvas
